Who doesn’t like food? Come on, let’s accept it – we are all foody in one way or the other. We love eating our favorite foods whenever and where ever we are. It is just a matter of enjoying certain foods, and not liking certain others. You will be shocked to know that for some people it is not significant for food to be tasty…they think it is enjoyable even if it treats their taste buds in a strikingly weird manner. Here is a list of ten weirdest foods in the world. These may not taste too great but are still popular in some cultures. Let’s take a look!
10. Black Pudding (Blood Sausage) : Weirdest Foods
A popular dish in Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe, Black Pudding or Blood sausage, is made of congealed blood cooked with some spices and natural flavors. It clearly looks disgusting, which is why we have it on our list of ten weirdest foods in the world. Suet and breadcrumbs are also some of the ingredients that go into the preparation of this unusual sausage. Makes us wonder, who would want to eat something that smells as well as tastes like blood – well, there are many out there it seems.
9. 100 or 1000 Years Old Egg
The name of this dish is just a little hyperbolic. It is also known as the century egg or a millennium egg – whereas actually it neither is a century old nor a millennium old egg. However, the egg is in a pretty rotten condition. It is preserved in a paste obtained by mixing clay, ash and quicklime. It is left in that condition for a few months until the yolk of the egg turns dark green or in some cases even black, while the white turns into a dark brown translucent jelly. It may taste just like a hardboiled egg – and may smell like sulphur and ammonia. Yuck!!! Whoever came up with this idea may be very creative and highly insensitive to smell and taste.
8. Fried Spiders
Commonly, across the world, people are petrified of spiders. They like to make sure that there are none in their restrooms or bedrooms. However, for the people of Cambodia, things are pretty different. Cambodians fry them and eat them instead. Why to let the crawling spiders go to waste for nothing – let’s put it in a dish and fry the thing for lunch? – That is something they would tell one another. This Cambodian delicacy is actually tarantula spiders. These crunchy little insects are served with a lime and black pepper dip. This is one of the highlights of our list of top ten weirdest foods.
Next on our list of top ten weirdest foods in the world, we have Escamoles – a food item which is highly popular in Mexico. Mexicans refer to it as ‘insect caviar’ – it is considered as their favorite snack. This unusual dish is basically ant larvae, harvested from the roots of the plants. Oh yes!!! That’s what they eat and enjoy – Escamoles, please!!!
