10. Human Skin- Book Cover Material
We are not kidding as we bring to your our first entry on this list. Harvard University press has confirmed that a book from the 19th century on French Treatise that is lying about in the university’s library is covered in human skin. We know that Dr. Hannibal Lector has suddenly crept up into the minds of most of our readers especially those who have not spent their lives in a cave like The Croods. This book was deposited into Harvard’s library in the year 1934 and it is said that the justification for binding the book in human skin is that the book is about the human soul. It makes more sense that it be bound in human skin and that too taken from the back of a woman! We are puking too!

Next up on our list of the weirdest book covers we have cow hide. This book is also part if a rare collection and is currently being sold on Amazon for 200 dollars. The book cover is made up of the best and clearest brown and white cow hide. It is titled “Romance De Lucero Albornoz”. Imagine holding a rare book in your hand all the while wondering what the cow must be feeling right now looking down on its skin. 8. Velvet, Rubies, Gilded Silver, Clam-shell – Book Cover Material
We next have an old book that has a velvet binding encrusted with precious stones and gilded silver as well as being enclosed in clam-shell. One look at this book will have you drooling all over that is if you are a rare books collector. This book certainly is rare enough. What is even more interesting is that this book uses purple parchment and is one of a kind which is why it is being sold for a whopping 10,800 dollars. It has been written by a painter Francesco Marmitta and is called Il Libro D’ore Durazzo.

The next book on our list is covered in embroidered silk. It is one of the most precious antique books. Now this might not come as a huge surprise because books are bound in leather and cloth and what not and most of the religious books are almost always bound in cloth. The book called Etrennes Mignonnes Pour l’An de Grace de Notre Seigneur MDCCLXII is bound in white silk and on the spine and elsewhere, the embroidery is of gold thread. This book is currently priced at 1,250 dollars and although the base of the book cover is full leather, the back and the rear has boards that are made up of intricate flower designs with glass beads. Exquisite looking thing it is if you have any interest in books.

It has to be one of the most extra ordinary books that have been covered in intricate papier-mâché but is still beautifully preserved. It is no wonder that this book is priced at 3,125 dollars.
