It was recently reported that a bear attacked a woman in Florida as she entered her own garage. What happened was that as many as five bears had sauntered into her garage to rummage through her trash cans for food. When she entered the garage, a large black bear took hold of her and dragged her out to the driveway. No serious injury was sustained although she had telltale scratches on her face and legs as she was taken to the hospital for treatment. This brings us to the topic that although animals generally are not an enemy to the human race but the wildlife often reacts to threats in a fatal way. This fact is further highlighted by ten stories that we are bringing to you in this article. In most of the cases given below, wildlife claimed human lives in a ferocious way and what’s more is that the attacks were not provoked in many of these cases as you shall read.
10. Killer Whale
The first incident that we have to report, took place in February 2010. It happened when a killer whale attacked her own trainer and killed him making this one of the saddest events of wildlife attacks. The whale was named Tilikum and weighed an enormous 12,300 pounds. She killed her trainer Dawn during a live performance in Sea World (Orlando) and then dragged her underwater. Guess after JAWS, this is one incident that might give people nightmares about being out in open waters.
9. Male Chimpanzee
The next incident to be reported was that of a chimpanzee attack. This chimpanzee has appeared in several different commercials and even in television shows. What happened was that she attacked a friend of the person who was keeping her. Another sad fact about this incident is that the chimpanzee was killed by the police in Connecticut where the incident happened but not before the chimp managed to rid the keeper’s friend of her facial features and hands.
8. Old Grizzly Bear
This is another one of those attacks that proved to be fatal. It was an attack by a grizzly bear that we are going to report next and this happened in April 2008. This bear was known for his wrestling skills with trained men of course. During the filming of yet another one of his promotional video’s, the bear who was five years old back then, took a bite from the neck of his human opposition that killed the man on spot.
7. Siberian Tiger
This next incident involves a Siberian Tiger and this happened in December 2007. This tiger belonged to the zoo in San Francisco but some how, it managed to escape injuring two teens and managing to kill one. It saddens us to know that the incident happened on a Christmas afternoon.
The next story of a vicious attack by a wildlife animal on a human is that of an elephant. The attack happened in the April of 2007. This attack took place in India where we are all aware that elephants are fairly common on the streets. These elephants are used for performing various tricks in ceremonial activities as well as for religious purposes. However, in April, in a ceremonial activity, a trained elephant somehow got provoked and completely flipped out killing its trainer and injuring 20 other people that were gathered to watch the elephant perform.
5. Stingray Barb
We next come to Steve Irwin, the famous crocodile hunter. He died a very rare death since a stingray barb only stings when provoked ferociously. Steve could never have provoked an animal, being the expert that he was on them. But somehow, while filming in the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, he was fatally pierced leading to his untimely death.
4. Grizzly Bear
The next story is also one of a grizzly bear. This time around, a pair of bear obsessed people were living amongst bears for nearly 13 seasons when in October 2003 they were suddenly killed and almost completely eaten by grizzly bears of the coast of Alaska. This incident, saddening as it truly is, happened in the Katmai National Park and it makes us think, why people don’t realize that wildlife is called wildlife for a reason.
This next incident happened in June, 2003 when a little kid 12 years of age drowned because of an alligator (as it pulled it under water and killed him). This attack took place while the little guy and his friends were swimming in Florida’s Dead River. Is it only us or does that sound really ironic?
2. Bengal Tiger
We are all very well aware of the show of Siegfried and Roy and their popularity when it comes to Bengal Tigers. Well apparently, wildlife will be wildlife, because what happened proves it to the T. During one of their shows the trained and perfectly harmless (as per the trainers) white Bengal tiger that weighed 600 pounds, attacked Roy. Despite so much training, one cannot say with certainty that a wildlife animal has been tamed completely.
1. Komodo Dragon
Los Angeles Zoo houses one of the most venomous Komodo dragons in the whole world. Komodo dragons look like a whole new species of the loathly lizards and we advise that you keep your distance. The advice, however, was not conveyed to Sharon Stone’s ex husband who needed foot surgery after the dragon bit him while a private tour of the zoo.
