We have all had our iPhones for quite a while now and we have really enjoyed playing games on it, crawling all over the social media with it, making calls with it (obviously) and then we also immensely enjoyed texting with it. Little did we know that if we shake it, it will remove our mistakes! Does this come as a shock to you? If it did then that points out to how little informed you are about your iPhone does it not? Well we are here to tell you all those things that you didn’t know about your own iPhone despite owning it for so many years. Given below is a list of ten things you didn’t know your iPhone could do. The pleasure, most certainly, is all ours.
10. Correcting Siri
We all love to tease Siri right and sometimes she teases the hell out of us. For those who aren’t aware or haven’t yet had the privilege to use Siri we offer a description. Siri is an automated artificial intelligence operating system that operates within the iPhone and is your only source of knowledge and guidance. We are exaggerating of course so you may Google it. Well Siri sometimes pronounces some things so horribly that you are at a loss for words. Did you know that you can correct that? So suppose you don’t like the way she pronounces a certain name, you can say “That’s not how you pronounce (name).” She will then provide you a multiple choice from which you can select your desired pronunciation.
9. Shake to un-type
The next amazing thing that you probably did not know you iPhone did was offer you to un-type what you just wrote simply by shaking it. So if a typo has occurred, all you need to do is give your phone a healthy little shake and the option will appear out of nowhere. Of course you can always backspace yourself to the right word but hey, the shake helps when you are really frustrated and angry. It provides a good out let.
8. Taking Pictures with the Volume Buttons
So imagine you are in a situation where you really want to take a picture but it is so cold that you cannot bear taking your gloves off. Or imagine a situation where no matter what you do, the camera app opened but your touch-screen compatible gloves just won’t work when you want to press the button to take a picture. Well no worries since a picture can also be taken using the volume buttons- very handy when you want to take a selfie.
7. Locking the Auto Focus and Auto Adjust
Here is another little feature that if you didn’t already know off, will prove to be quite handy from here on out. This is especially helpful when you are trying your level best to take a shot and the camera keeps on focusing and refocusing. Well now you can make sure that does not keeping zooming in and out like the eyes of a stoned man (or woman).
6. Keyboard Shortcuts
Next on our list of the things that we assume you didn’t know about your iPhone and are very excited, therefore, to share with you, is the handy little option to add keyboard shortcuts. Say for example that you have a loved one and your mornings and nights do not end without saying “I love you”! Well now you can add a shortcut “ILU” and whenever you type the three letters, it would automatically convert into the corresponding full-phrase. Similarly, if you have a phrase that you are used to saying again and again like “Oh my God”, you can even convert that into a shortcut. BYAHN (Bet you are happy now) aren’t you?
5. Assistive Touch
Now you might not have totally appreciated the concept of assistive touch but you will once you realize how handy it is. Say for example that you need to pinch the screen to zoom in and zoom out of a picture and you cannot possible use two hands. Well, assistive touch will help you set your own one-handed pinch. How awesome is that?
4. Timed Music
Have you people ever noticed or wondered how awesome it would be if we had the luxury to play our music for a certain period of time and then it automatically turns off the moment you drift off to sleep? Well iPhone has solved the problem for you. Now you can set your timer for a certain length of time (depending on how soon you think you will be asleep) and the moment the time is over, the timer will automatically stop your music playback. Isn’t that one of the handiest options available to us? Simply scroll to the end of the menu that says “when timer stops” and select “stop playing” and voilà!
3. Alphanumeric Pass-code
We all know that iPhone offers a standard four digit pass-code when ever you try to open or unlock your phone right? Well now you can set that pass-code to be an alphanumeric code simply by going into the settings and unchecking the “simple pass-code” option. the next time you try to unlock your screen, you will see that the numeric keypad has been replaced by a full keyboard.
2. Alerts via Flash
The next amazing little secret on out list today is the fact that you can set the LED flash on your iPhone to alert you every single time you receive a message or a notification. Impressive isn’t it? All you need to do is go into Settings and then into General. Once you are there, you just need to turn on the LED Flash for Alerts tab in accessibility and you are all done. Make sure you have your phone upside down otherwise the flash won’t really be visible and yes it will consume a bit more battery then usual.
1. Find the Flight
Now if everyone had iPhones, everyone could turn on their location services and then ask Siri “what flights are overhead’ and maybe just maybe someone might have said The Malaysian Airline Flight that went missing! It is just a thought but a good one at that you must admit. This is the last highly unknown feature of the iPhone that we have to report. You can ask Siri about the flights and she will provide you with the Name, Number and Altitude of all the airlines flying above you. How cool is that?
