Having good health is a very blessed thing. Health is not something that we should be taking lightly since there are several habits from our everyday lifestyles that are effecting our health in a very bad manner. We are always looking towards exercise and fitness tips, diets and health foods and while it remains true that your body is a direct reflection of what you consume, there are several other factors that can lead to bad health. In this article we will be examining some of the several habits from our daily lives that take a direct toll on our well being. Although the ten habits that are ruining your fitness, mentioned below, might seem pretty ordinary, you have no idea of the impact they are having on your overall fitness goals.
Let us start from the very obvious. There are several different documentaries from doctors, several different articles on the web and a gazillion pictures certified by physicians and experts from around the world that will enlighten you to the enormous disadvantages of smoking. Smoking is injurious to health is a phrase that has been said so many times in various television commercials, the print media and the social media that people pay no heed anymore. The fact pretty much remains right in our face – smoking is injurious to health as it weakens your heart. Smoking can lead to cancer of the lungs as well as several different respiratory problems. Our advice is to drop the habit completely meaning no vapors, no smoke and no hookahs, nothing!
Where smoking effects the lungs, drinking primarily effects the liver. We are not talking about drinking occasionally, a glass in a week or red wine (which is actually good for the heart but in moderation). We are talking about drinking uncontrollably, glass after glass till your liver gives up. And it is not only limited to that, drinking alcohol means consuming empty calories. This means that if you continue drinking unreasonably, you will end up obese as well as sick. The same advice applies – quit!
The next habit on our list of the ten habits that are ruining your health is inactivity. Now while some of you might argue that inactivity is not actually a habit, we tend to respectfully disagree. True that it only applies to those with desk jobs (primarily that is) but it still means bad health due to weight gain. If you are a person with a desk job, make it a point to take short break at least twice or thrice during the day and in that break, either go for a short walk, climb some stairs or simply stretch. It should come as a healthy relief to you previously immobile muscles and will also break the routine. Furthermore, including exercise in your life either weekly or preferably daily would also make a huge difference, one that will be visible.
7. Indoor Air Pollution
We are comfortable and secure in the atmosphere and the environments within our houses but have you recently (or ever) felt that you seem to be catching the cold quit a lot? We might not detect it all that easily but sometimes the pollution in the air inside our houses is more dangerous health wise than the pollution outdoors simply because we tend to be more carefree when we are indoors. So make it a point to change all your air filters and try keeping the house dust free.
6. Frozen Diners
People with a busy work life might be able to relate more to this. What happens is that we often run short of time and therefore we rely upon frozen packaged food that we get from the market. That packaged food acts as a quick fix for either breakfast, lunch or diner. It would probably do us good to keep it in mind that all the frozen food contains high levels of sodium which makes them taste so good. High levels of sodium are not a very healthy choice to make as far as our bodies are concerned. It would certainly be healthier if you can prepare your meals in advance, as organic as possible, and freeze them the day before in case you regularly run short of time.
5. Sugary Drinks
Since the summer season is upon is, we all like our fair share of smoothies and slushes, lemonades and juices and for those extra work hours we put in at the office, our trusted Red Bulls. However, little do we know that these drinks that are pretty much always loaded with sugar suppress our natural immune systems and in certain cases, has also lead to cancer! Ditch the diet soda and low calorie drinks and turn to cold water instead. Nothing quenches thirst like water does and it is in fact good for your health.
4. Loud Environments
Now you might all be confused as to what might loud environments have to do with good health. We believe, which is also true, that good health means that all your five senses are working perfectly. Good hearing might not be amongst your fitness goals but it will be once you have seen someone suffer from the loss of hearing. Continuously remaining amidst loud environments can do that to you.
3. Fast Food
So much has already been said over the bad effects of fast food that we would really be wasting words. The point remains that fast food, prepared with sub-standard oils and ingredients, does no benefit to your health and research has proven that consuming fast food regularly actually increases the craving for fast food. The same is said for green food so why not try that for a change. Your body will thank you.
2. Extreme Dieting
We next come to the habit of extreme dieting that some people have. We are sure that all of you have had people in your lives which eat all they want and then spend the next few days eating nothing. You might also know people who, for the sake of losing weight quickly, tend to go on a no calories diet or a water only diet. Whatever extreme it is, be mindful that it is not good for your health. No matter what your goal weight is, your body will need a steady amount of minerals, vitamins, protein and fats (believe it or not)! Crash dieting will only lead to more negative results.
1. Staying Indoors
Last but certainly not the least, staying indoors and avoiding any possible physical activity can lead to a very unhealthy life. As much as your body needs food, it also needs to move and the muscles need to work out. Only then will your body be able to function for prolonged periods of time and you will live a healthy life. Activity is the key here!
