10. Precious : Most Depressing Movies
This movie was released in the year 2009 and makes you wonder how family, the only relationships in the world that you can rely on blindly, can hurl you into a frenzy of pain and depression. The movies follows the story of an obese girl called Precious as she makes her way through life with incest raging at her house and a physically as well as mentally abusive woman as a mother. The movie tells us how she can be an inspiration despite being so melancholy. The acting by the cast is tremendous at its worst.
9. The Road
This movie was released in the year 2009 as well and more than anything else, this movie presses on us the fact that even in the direst of circumstances, there is a very strong very plausible need for humanity and dignity. The movie follows a future after the apocalypse which in itself presents a very gloomy and forlorn environment. A father and son roam in search of sustenance and soon the father gets shot and dies. The son gets taken in by a good family and the movie continues. The movie version offers a little more hope than the book itself on which the movie is based but nonetheless, it leads to a very sad end.
8. The Elephant Man
It is a beautifully filmed movie and best of, it is shot in black and white in a hospital. The message that the movie gives is that our human behavior is biased towards people whose physical appearance is not much to write home about. The Elephant Man is about a person Merrick, who has severe facial deformities. He is then taken in by a doctor and then the whole movie starts rolling. Needless to say you will shed a few tears while watching this one as this is one depressing movie.

This movie was released in the year 1969 and it is one of those films that have moments after moments of depressing sequences that will leave your heart drained and your eyes dried up. It is about a small boys bond with his bird. If you are a bird lover then despite the gloominess you will love the movie.
6. Lilya 4-ever
This movie was released in the year 2002. As the name indicates, this movie follows a young girl in the ex-Soviet town where most girls her age are turned towards prostitution because of the lack of other suitable means of living. This movie seems to be more depressing because it is so close to reality especially social realism. This is the movie that has also been show cased in several information campaigns that were focused on human trafficking for the same reason that this is as close to reality as possible.
