We all share a mutual love for amusement parks right? Since we were children, amusement parks have been a real delight. Amusement parks mean that you get to have lots of cotton candy, you shoot small stuff for pennies and win giant stuffed toys, you get to ride gigantic roller coaster rides screaming at the top of your lungs and you get to eat off of various stalls and see clowns. Amusement parks in general, are filled with a huge number of rides for the entertainment of the crowds, one ride more challenging and thrilling than the next. But have you ever noticed that some amusement parks, for one reason or another like shortage of funds or mismanagement or bankruptcy, also close down? So what happens then? This article will focus on ten of those amusement parks which are now barren, haunted and completely abandoned. The sight of these will make you shiver.
10. Joyland Abandoned Parks
The first abandoned park on our list of the creepiest abandoned parks in the world is Joyland which is situated in Wichita in the US. This park closed down in 2004 and as is with all places that shutter down, vandalism has given this place a very gloomy look. As per the owner, Margaret Russel, efforts have been initiated to bring this park to its original beauty.
9. Six Flags
Six flags is one of the oldest most popular abandoned parks in the US. It is situated in New Orleans and used to have some of the most outrageous rides ever. It is another one of those amusement parks that have been deserted and left to rot. This amusement park was built in the year 2000 and when the Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, it completely destroyed the park. We have news that there are plans to rebuild and reestablish the park but for now the whole situation is pretty desolate.
8. Okpo Land
We next have Okpo Land in Geoje Island South Korea. If you are looking for an abandoned that you can build a horror movie around or an amusement park that can provide you the right foundation for that horror story that you were always looking to right, then Okpo Land should be your prime choice. This amusement park shut down after a series of rather unfortunate accidents which involved people falling off of rides and dying mysterious deaths. Not a very good attraction for tourists. This park was built on top of a hill and is still a famous destination for souls who are brave enough to go searching for paranormal occurrences.
7. The Heritage
This amusement park is located in Fort Mill USA and is one mysterious place. For one thing, the amusement park consisted of everything and anything that can possibly have anything to do with Christianity and yet the park met its doom. It is also one of the oldest parks which explains an old castle which now lays abandoned as well and presumably haunted. The park closed down due to a hurricane in the year 1989. During that time the management was also going through financial issues and saw it fit to just shut the place down for good.
The next park on our list of the creepiest abandoned parks in the world we have Spreepark located in Berlin, Germany. This park ran for a very good amount of time considering that it started functioning in 1969 and closed down in 2002 due to financial troubles. The owner tried to pluck all of the rides from here and take them to South America but was later arrested for trying to smuggle cocaine in one of his rides. We are guessing that money was probably very tight. What remains of the park are ghosts of some of its rides, giving it an eerie look.
