2. Day of The Hungry Ghosts
In Hong Kong, Halloween celebrations go by the name of “Festival of hungry ghosts”. Our research on Halloween facts states that it is named Day of hungry ghosts because their ancestor believed that the dead who pass into the living world on this day are angry and revengeful. To counter that, huge fires are lit and different kinds of gifts and food items are offered to the souls. So they would only eat food and not humans.
1. Beggars Initiated Trick or Treating
Concluding our list of Halloween facts, we will talk about trick-or-treating. Because who doesn’t love some candy? Did you know that in past, there was no concept of trick or treating ? Instead, the poor people used to go door to door to get something to eat in order to become a part of the celebration. Every family would make something sweet and give it out to the poor people. Those treats were called “Soul food” at the time. Later, this tradition was adopted by kids and transformed into trick-or-treating.
