Today on did-you-know session we have targeted large country for you guys. Why does it sounds like we are talking about a fishing trip? Well anyway, we have a list of things to know about Canada and if you have ever been to the country you will see that it has a lot to offer to its tourists. We might warn you though that even if you have been there or even if you live there, there might still be some things on this list that you were not aware off before so keep your eyes and ears peeled. You are going to love this one!
10. Basic Information – Must Know
As usual and as per the trend that we have set for ourselves lately, we would like to start off with some of the most basic information on our list of things to know about Canada. So did you guy know that Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world after Russia? That is pretty huge for a country that is normally off the radar in world politics! Also, brownie points for all those who can guess which is the third largest country, an answer that would be easy if you have following our blog!
9. Max Macaroni and Cheese Consumption
So next up on our list of things to know about Canada is that when it comes to macaroni and cheese, which we all agree in unbelievably delicious dish, Canada is the one country that has the highest macaroni and cheese consumption in the entire world! Yes, that’s right, the entire world! Can you guys believe it? We are a little shocked because honestly we thought that America would come out on top if such a competition ever took place! Well its finders keepers in this case we think.
8. Canadian Population and Candy Crush active monthly users
Next up on out list is a fact that will really ring some bells in your mind because it did the same for. This particular little fact on our list of things to know about Canada has to do with the Canadian population in general and the number of active monthly Candy Crush players (read users because that game is a total addiction). Did you guys know that the number of active candy crush players in one month surpasses the total number of people in Canada (yes yes the Canadian population)! How about that for an interesting thing to know eh?
7. Maximum number of lakes
Next on our list of interesting things to know about Canada we have a bit of inside information on the lakes in Canada. Did you guys know, for instance, that 9% of the entire surface of Canada is covered in freshwater? And did you guys know that it has 60% of the world’s lakes which means that Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world combined? In case you are looking for a figure, Canada has around 3 million lakes within its borders! Of course the sizes vary and some might be really small while others are really large- we are sure you get the idea!
6. License Plates shaped like Polar Bears in Northwest Territories
After reading about the surprisingly large number of lakes in Canada maybe the fact that the license plates in the Northwest region of the country are shaped like polar bears (a favorite animal of the country) would not come as such a big surprise but it is true never the less.
5. Largest Coastline
Again, after reading about the large number of lakes it would not come as a shock that Canada has a large coastline right? In fact, Canada has the largest coastline in the world and that constitutes the next big thing on our list of things to know about Canada.
4. Most Snakes in the World – Winnipeg
Look what we just found during our research for our list of things to know about Canada. Did you guys know that North of Winnipeg is the Narcisse Snake Dens conversation area? You might ask what is so special about this area but let us tell you before your mind wanders that each spring, tens of thousands of red-sided garter snakes slither out from their dens for a few weeks from mid-April to early May. So if you are willing to lay eyes on the largest number of snakes that you will ever lay eyes on, that too when they are all together, head on to Canada and then to Winnipeg where there are viewing platforms set up so you can watch them from afar. Phew!
3. Harvesting Icebergs for Skincare Products
Next on our list of things to know about Canada we have a very peculiar piece of information. Did you guys know that every spring, massive islands of ice broken off of glaciers in Greenland parade through ‘Iceberg Alley’, past the coast of Labrador and Newfoundland. And we all know how keen business minds can turn everything into gold right so there are entrepreneurs who are actually harvesting these glacier pieces and turning them into very exciting products which include but are not limited to wine, vodka, beer, and even skincare products.
2. UFO Landing Pad
We take back our words from the previous entry since this is the more peculiar piece of information that we need to share with you guys. So Canada has the only UFO Landing Pad in the entire world. It is in St. Paul, Alberta and here is the stranger part, the town provided the land, and local businesses provided building supplies and labour for the raised cement pad!This means that the whole town actually believes in the whole thing and so does the Minister of Defense, Paul Hellyer, as he is the one who flew in (by helicopter, not spaceship) to officially open it. We said its peculiar.
1. Alberta National Park and Switzerland
Last but not the least, on our list of things to know about Canada, we have to report that the Alberta National Park in Canada is bigger in size than Switzerland? Well neither did we but it is true!
