War has been known to mankind since centuries and the concept continues to date. This particular article talks about the ongoing armed conflicts that you are probably unaware of. While there are various wars that the world knows about, there are a few, equally significant, over which not a light is shed. This article is for informational purposes on certain aspects of these ongoing armed conflicts. Majority of these conflicts concern African countries with heavy casualties.

The first on our list of ongoing armed conflicts is the War in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is located in the Asian continent and the conflict started in the year 1978. The total fatalities range between 1,405,111 to 2,084,468 while the fatalities in the year 2013 amounted to 5,648. The year 2014 so far as seen 138 deaths. This particular war was also includes the American invasion of Afghanistan. The region has been very volatile since the year 1970s only to see stabilization, to some extent, in the year 2014 with US armed forces having moved out.
This particular conflict, Somali Civil War, started in the year 1991. The location of this conflict is Somalia and Somaliland, two separate states. The civil war continues to this year with the location being in continental Africa. The total casualties to this date go up to over 500,000. There were a total of 3,150 fatalities in the year 2013 while 2014 so far, sees a lower number at 854. Since the starts of the Somali Civil War, the death rate has been over 1,000 every year.
Another one of the ongoing conflicts concerns Nigeria, a country in Africa. The conflict refers to as the Islamist insurgency in Nigeria and has resulted in over 10,500 deaths so far. The casualties in the year 2013 were over 1,600. 2014 has proven to be a rather fatal year with over 5,000 casualties so far. There are no signs of the conflict ending anytime soon since the nature of the conflict is very sensitive. This conflict is also known as the Sharia Conflict in Nigeria and it started as result of establishment of Sharia law in Muslim states in northern Nigeria. Christians, are a minority, but they disagree with the law.
This is one of those ongoing armed conflicts that concerns drugs. It is known as the Mexican Drug War which started in the year 2006. Mexico is a country located in North America. Over the years, the total fatalities have been over 150,000 while in the year 2013 the total deaths were 11,788. The year 2014 has seen over 66 fatalities so far. The conflict is between rival drug cartels over regional control. The conflict is against the Mexican government and civilian vigilante groups as well.
The Egyptian Crisis started in the year 2011. Egypt is located in Africa. Total casualties go over the figure of 4,300. The year 2013 saw the death toll at over 1,000 while in year 2014 the total deaths resulting from this crisis amount to between 79 and 300. The conflict started when various Egyptians gave up early in year 2011 due to the autocratic rule of President Hosni Mubarak that lasted for thirty years. The crisis originally resulted out of several protests and uprisings all over the country whereby thousands of Egyptians occupied various public places including the capital’s Tahrir Square.
