While air travel is incredibly safe, certain unavoidable circumstances arise that lead to problems causing the planes to crash. This particular article concerns top aviation disasters 2014. While a majority of these plane crashed can be attributed to technical problems or otherwise bad weather, there are certain flights that were actually shot down in horribly committed war crimes. One of these flights is perhaps the most mysterious disappearances of an aircraft ever recorded.

10. Lockheed C-130H-30 Hercules
The first on our list of aviation disasters 2014 is the Lockheed C-130H-30 Hercules. This particular airplane crashed in Ain Kercha killing 76 people onboard. Algerian Air Force was the operator of this flight and it was a military plane. The plane crashed on 11th February of 2014 in Ain Kercha, Oum el-Bouaghi. Of the 73 people onboard (excluding the crew), 72 people died. All 4 crew members were killed by the crash. It crashed because of poor visibility. Only one passenger survived.
9. Nepal Airlines Flight 183
Nepal Airlines Flight 183 was a domestic flight operated by Nepal Airlines. It crashed near Dhikura, south-west of Pokhara Nepal on the 16th February of 2014. The aircraft crashed into a hill killing all 18 people onboard of which 3 were crew members. The flight was headed for Jumla Airport in Nepal. Everybody onboard the plane was a Nepalese national except for one person who was Danish. The investigations were carried on by a four-man team appointed by the Nepalese government which submitted the findings some 2 months after the crash.
8. Antonov AN-26
This particular plane crash happened on the 21st February of 2014. The plane was an Antonov AN-26, operated by the Libyan Air Cargo. It crashed while landing leaving absolutely no survivors. The plane was manufactured in the year 1981 and it crashed in Grombalia, Nabeul Governate in Tunisia. There were a total of 11 people onboard the plane that were killed. The flight was supposed to reach the destination airport at night. The aircraft was completing an ambulance flight with a total of three doctors and two patients onboard the plane.
7. Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370
This particular flight on our list of aviation disasters 2014 is a complete mystery to date. The flight, a Boeing 777 was en route from Kuala Lampur carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, a total of 239 passengers. It was headed from Beijing to the capital of Malaysia when it disappeared, in all its entirety, from the radar while passing over the Gulf of Thailand. After much investigations, no parts were found in the nearing waters or land and therefore it was concluded that the plane had crashed into the Indian Ocean right off the Western Coast of Australia. The plane crashed on the 8th March of 2014.
6. Comp Air CA-8
Comp Air CA-8 was a plane that was operated by the Suomen Urheiluilmailijat. It was a training flight and it went down during the flight. It was flying around the airport the flight originated from in Jamijarvi, Satakunta, Finland. There were a total of 11 people onboard the flight of which 8 people died. One crew member was also present who survived the crash. The plane was carrying skydivers and after reaching an altitude of around 4,000m the pilot encountered technical problems. These problems led the plane into spinning which eventually resulted in the plane crashing in the woods.
5. Antonov AN-74TK-300D
This particular airplane crashed on the 17th May of 2014 in Xiang Khouang. It is the second Antonov plane in our list of aviation disasters of 2014. It was operated by the Laotian Government and it crashed while landing. It was a governmental flight. It was less than 10km from the airport when it crashed in the Xiang Khouang Province. This particular plane, Antonov AN-74 was manufactured in 2007. Of the total 17 people onboard, of which 6 were crew members, 16 people died. The aircraft was very low towards the approach, and it hit the tree tops after which it crashed in flames.
4. Ilyushin IL-76MD
This particular flight crashed on the 14th June of 2014 near Luhansk. The flight was operated by the Ukranian Air Force and the aircraft was an Iiyushin IL-76. It crashed while landing as well and there were no survivors. It was supposed to fly from Melitopol to Luhansk. At around 0110 Local Time, the plane crashed in Luhansk, Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine, killing all 49 people onboard of which 9 were a part of the crew. This particular aircraft was shot down by pro-Russian rebels with an anti-aircraft weapon Igla SAM.
3. Piper PA-31P
Piper PA-31-350 Navajo Chieftain was an aircraft manufactured in 1976. It was operated by PrivatePrive and it went crashing down during takeoff. It was a training flight. The plane crashed on the 5th July of 2014 in Czestochowa, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. There were a total of 12 people onboard including one crew member. Of these 12, 11 people were killed instantaneously. The pilot, shortly after taking off, was unable to maintain a proper rate of climb due to problems he encountered. All 11 members on board were skydivers. One of these skydivers survived.
2. Malaysia Airlines Flight 17
Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down by a Buk surface to air missile. At least that is the conclusion that has been drawn. It was shot down near Hrabove, Donetsk, Oblast, Ukraine. The flight was carrying 283 passengers onboard of which 15 were crew members. There were no survivors after the plane was shot. It is reported that Russian-backed rebels in Ukraine shot down the plane. It was supposed to be headed for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the plane was operated by Malaysia Airlines. This incident happened on the 17th July of 2014.
1. TransAsia Airways Flight 222
Finally on our list of aviation disasters 2014, we have the TransAsia Airways Flight 222. This was a scheduled domestic passenger flight. It tried to land at the Magong, Penghu Island in Taiwan. At first try it was unsuccessful, so it went around to take another shot. Due to the Typhoon Matmo, the region was experiencing strong winds and rain. The plane was carrying a total of 54 passengers of which 47 died after the crash. The plane crashed on the 23rth July of 2014.
The list of aviation disasters 2014 is already too long since there have been unfortunate and numerous air incidents around the world. This particular list represents the most significant ones. May God rest the souls of the departed.
